Watch out boys- Villa named water polo player of the decade

YPSILANTI, Mich.- Brenda Villa, three-time Olympic water polo player, was recently named water polo player of the decade by FINA Aquatics World Magazine.

Villa adds this new title to an extensive resume of awards and accolades. The Team USA captain has already won two Olympic silver medals- in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the 2008 Beijing games- and a bronze medal during the 2004 Athens games.



According to the Los Angeles Wave article, the Stanford-alum has also won three World Championships and a World League title. In 2001, she was named NCAA Women's Water Polo player of the year. She led her college team to win the NCAA Women's Water Polo Championship in 2002.

In 2008, the Women's Sports Foundation called Villa "The American Saint of Water Polo."

The Los Angeles native began swimming as a child and followed her older brother into the sport of water polo.

FINA also gave men's water polo player Tamas Kasas and Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps honors.
